MacPhun's Tonality B&W app goes global

By Joel Shore  September 4, 2014

MacPhun Software announced a free update to its Tonality black-and-white software that adds support for eight languages and support for Adobe Photoshop's Smart Objects feature. The software uses a proprietary 16-bit RAW processing engine, advanced imaging algorithms and a comprehensive set of digital darkroom features that enable photographers to create the black-and-white images with minimal effort and maximum creativity.

Languages supported by Tonality 1.0.1 now include English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese. When the software is first installed, it detects the language configured in the operating system and uses that language. To change to a different language, simply change the language setting of the Mac.

Support for Smart Objects enables photographers who use Photoshop to save changes to files modified by the Tonality Pro plug-in, and then return to the plug-in with all settings intact. This is especially important for photographers incorporating Tonality Pro into a batch-processing workflow or those using Photoshop CC's new video editing capabilities.

Additional features include speed improvements, bug fixes, a new Straighten tool and additional capabilities for the Clarity and Lens Blur tools. Tonality has enjoyed a #1 ranking on the Mac App Store since release in late July. The software continues to gain accolades, such as positive reviews in the media and as a Mac App Store Editor's Choice.

Pricing & Availability

To get the free update of Tonality downloaded from the Mac App Store, simply launch the App Store app in Mac OS X, click on the Updates button at the top of the window, and choose to update Tonality. Owners of Tonality Pro can select Check for Updates from the Tonality menu when launching the standalone app.

For new buyers, Tonality is available as a download from the MacPhun Web Store (http://www.macphun.com/store) and the Mac App Store. It is also available at select specialty camera and online retailers (http://www.macphun.com/reseller). Retail products are delivered on a high-speed SD memory card, an industry first.

Two versions of the software are available: As a limited time special offer exclusively on the Mac App Store, the standard version of Tonality is priced at $19.99. Tonality Pro, which adds the ability to run as a plug-in to popular host applications as well as several other features, is priced at $69.99. Tonality Pro is also available as part of the MacPhun's Creative Kit Plus (combined with Snapheal Pro, Intensify Pro and Focus 2 Pro) for $149.99.
